Who We Are

In 1991, the Sisters of St. Joseph began looking at a disturbing problem:  many thousands of Twin Cities residents could not get the medical care they needed because they did not have health insurance and did not qualify for subsidized government health care programs.  To address this need, the Sisters opened the first clinic in 1992.

Today there are 14 clinic sessions each week at locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area serving people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds providing free health care to those in need. The clinics operate in locations where space has been donated by the host facility.  The clinics are staffed by licensed physicians and nurses, as well as admissions personnel and interpreters, who volunteer their time to work in the clinics.

Our Mission:
The mission of St. Mary’s Health Clinics, in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joesph of Carondelet, is to carry out the healing ministry of Christ by providing needed health services which are accessible to the medically underserved.

We Value:
° the inherent dignity of the individual person.
° health care as a basic human right, regardless of age, gender,
religion, ethnic origin, race or ability to pay.
° the well-being of the whole person.
° promoting the common good by providing access to health care.
° the individual's personal responsibility for his/her own health.
    ° direct, "hands on" care.
° ethical and fair process for allocating limited health care resources.
